Your Shout has been commissioned by the Department for Education to consult local residents on a proposal to open a new boys Harris Academy, including a Sixth Form, on the site of the current Avery Hill campus of the University of Greenwich. The university is due to vacate the site later this year and subject to planning approval, the aim is for the new school to open in September 2022 with an initial cohort of 180 pupils increasing to 1,150 over the coming years. It will be called Harris Academy Avery Hill and will be part of the Harris Federation.
The opening of a new boys’ school in the borough will help to address the gender balance of places required in Greenwich. Based on Harris’ strong track record, we are confident this school will prove popular among local parents.
The development will preserve existing elements of the site and extend them with new modern structures.
The Harris Federation has strong track record of providing top tier education all around London. They would now like to provide the same service to the community around Avery Hill.
We are holding online Q&A consultation events on this proposal.
These will be held on Thursday 14 May, at 1pm and 5.30pm; and Saturday 16 May at 2pm, from a link on this site. In the meantime, you can send us your questions in advance by clicking below.
